“We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty.”
— Mother Teresa
The Eva Rothwell Centre at Robert Land is located in the heart of the Keith Neighbourhood in North Hamilton.
While there’s a strong sense of community pride, there are also some harsh realities facing the kids and 1,100 families who live in the neighbourhood.
According to 2001 Census data, the Keith Neighbourhood is in a part of the city with:
- The highest percentage of families living at or below the poverty line
- The highest percentage of single parent families
- The lowest average household income
- One of the highest crime rates
That said, the Keith Neighbourhood has a wealth of assets on which to build a strong and healthy community, including:
- Great kids and families
- Great schools and dedicated teachers
- Great support from community partners
- A strong and active neighbourhood association
- Mars Park
- More than 60 employers in the immediate neighbourhood
The Eva Rothwell Centre at Robert Land is committed to bringing together community partners and leveraging the unique strengths of the neighbourhood.
